One of the uniquely valuable things about Reiki is that by taking a single one-day class, you can start a business and earn a meaningful income. You heard that right, and Takata Sensei validated this idea. What I mean is that within a short time after starting your Reiki business, you could be earning $300 to $400 a week working part time! You can do this by giving sessions only, but if you go on to become a Reiki Master, you could easily earn more by giving Reiki classes too! Let me explain.

The fee Takata Sensei charged for Reiki I was $175.00, $500.00 for Reiki II and $10,000.00 for Master. Back in the ‘70s when she was teaching, the inflation-adjusted cost in today’s dollars for these classes was $1170.26, $3343.60 and $67,000.00, respectively.(1) I know your eyes are likely bugging out of your head right now, but these numbers are accurate. However, the current cost is much lower. Read on and see what I mean.

With this prohibitive cost, most students took Reiki I only, as the price of Reiki II was so high that only a very few students could afford it and only the wealthy or someone with inheritance money could afford to be a Reiki Master.

Since most practitioners had Reiki I only, and knowing that this is all you need to get started, Takata Sensei encouraged students to start a Reiki practice giving Reiki sessions and charging money, and this is what many of them did. Moreover, while currently, some Reiki Masters say you must at least have Reiki II or even be a Reiki Master to give sessions to others and charge money, this advice is not backed up by what Takata Sensei taught. Keep in mind that her teacher was Hayashi Sensei who was trained by Usui Sensei. So, this information comes from an experienced and revered teacher who had worked in Hayashi Sensei’s Reiki clinic for a year and practiced and taught Reiki in Hawaii for over forty years.(2) I repeat—you can start a Reiki business giving sessions and charging money after taking a beginning Reiki class.

A Reiki business can be started soon after taking a class because gaining experience is not necessary. The ability to give Reiki sessions comes from the attunement (also called a Placement). As soon as you receive the attunement in class, your Reiki will immediately be strong, and you will be able to give effective Reiki sessions. The only thing you may lack is confidence, and I explain how to quickly gain confidence through a simple practice method I describe below.

Currently, many Reiki teachers are teaching Reiki I/ II together and charging a fee of around $400.00, and you can take a Reiki I class for about $200.00. As you can see, because of inflation, this price is less than 10% of the price Takata Sensei charged for these two classes. So currently, the Reiki training available now is a real bargain compared with what it used to cost.

Assuming you have at least taken the basic Reiki training, I suggest that you get started with your Reiki practice right away. To do this, begin by giving free sessions to members of your family and friends. A free session could consist of a brief description of what Reiki is, followed by a 20-30 minute session or it could even be as short as 10-15 minutes. Let them know that a typical session can last 45 minutes to an hour or so, and let them know how much you charge or intend to charge for a full Reiki session. Also, when you give sessions, even the free ones, be sure to get clients’ names and email addresses and store them in an online file. You will be able to use these for marketing once you begin to promote your business more seriously.

After you’ve given ten or twelve free mini-sessions, I suggest you begin charging money. Start at a low price and over time work your way up to your target fee. Your target fee should be about the same as other experienced Reiki practitioners are charging in your area. If you don’t already know this, I suggest looking online for Reiki practitioners in your area or on the bulletin boards at health food or new age books stores for ads for Reiki practitioners and emailing or calling them to find out what their fee is. You could also look in one of the local metaphysical, new age publications to find out. These papers are offered in many areas and are usually free. However, the going rate for Reiki sessions in the US varies between $50 to $200 per hour depending on the part of the country in which you live.

Starting, I suggest that you tell everyone that you will be giving your first ten sessions for $25.00 (as an example) and after that, you will be going up to $35.00. As you give sessions using this increasing-rate method, also let people know how many sessions you have already done at that price, so they will realize that they need to see you right away before your price goes up. If you merely say you are starting a Reiki practice and are charging $25.00 people will say, “Oh, okay,” perhaps thinking they will get a session from you sometime, but they may also forget about it. However, if they know that they will be saving money if they sign up right away, they will be motivated to do it.

Another thing to do is to be ready to give out free samples of Reiki. As an example, if you are at church or a party or another gathering and someone says they strained their shoulder or some other part of their body, offer them some free Reiki. Then hand them your business card. As you are giving the person Reiki, others are likely to wonder what you are doing and come over to watch. As they do this, give them a little talk about Reiki, letting them know you are giving Reiki and that it creates relaxation and healing. Most people will respond by saying, “Oh, I need that.” While this is going on, ask the person you are giving Reiki to how it feels and let them provide a sales pitch to the others. The others are likely to ask if you could give them some Reiki too. Keep going and continue to give out your business cards.

Yes, it is always an excellent idea to have business cards with you and be ready to hand them out. Your business card needs to have your email address and web site listed and possibly your phone number. You can also indicate the city or the area in which you live but never list your physical address.

You can find an inexpensive source for business cards online. They will usually have samples of card designs on their web site and a form to fill out with the information you’d like on your card and a place to enter your credit card information and shipping address for billing and delivery.

Yes, as you continue developing your Reiki practice, you’ll need a web site and a Twitter account. Free or low-cost web sites are available with simple-to-follow instructions on setting them up. You might try godaddy.com or google.com, and there are others.

These are a few ideas you can follow to get your Reiki business going. I suggest you start doing them right away. As you do so, you’ll see how enjoyable it is to earn money helping people to relax and heal.

Thanks for taking the time to read my short article. If you are serious about developing your Reiki practice, I suggest you consider getting the book advertised below. My fondest hope is that you’ll follow through on what I’m suggesting and make your Reiki dreams come true.

sunflowersReiki for Your Garden
by Jill Thiel

Shortly after my Reiki Master attunement, I started hearing the voices of the trees and plants that were surrounding me. I believed they were asking me for Reiki. At first, I questioned whether I imagined these voices, but I decided it wouldn’t hurt to try to work with them. I visualized sending the forest Reiki. I continued to do this everywhere I went and any chance I had. It felt like an effective way to listen, practice and visualize Reiki.

Anything living has ki, life-energy, flowing through it. Plants are filled with ki and are great for receiving Reiki. I found the easiest way to connect to nature is through the senses. You only need a smell, sound, taste, sight, or touch to tap into nature’s energies with Reiki. We can all connect this way. Often connections can be very subtle, so we need to be open and pay attention to our thoughts and feelings and the images brought up in our minds.

I feel very strongly about exchange with the plant world ; if we can take from it, we can give back to it as well. Christopher Penczak (1)

Soon after these deeper experiences with nature began, I received thoughts about starting a vegetable and flower garden. My husband and I set about removing the lawn and tilling the soil in our yard. I planted the basics—tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, beans, peas, herbs and squash. We knew we had the right conditions for growing. The earth was rich and dark, and the things we planted thrived quickly.

Others remarked that there must be something else going on with our garden for everything to grow so well. After all, those with similar conditions to ours couldn’t replicate our results. Moreover, year after year we were consistently improving. Coincidentally, I noticed my Reiki business was also improving with each year of gardening. Six months out of the year, while the garden was growing, clients coming to our house would exclaim how magnificent the yard looked and how healing it felt. People would stop their cars, get out to talk and ask for tours.

All my gardening and Reiki led me to a perfect part-time summer gardening position that one of my Reiki clients created for me. We grew food crops in raised beds for clients living in the city. I would be mindful to send Reiki while planting, weeding and maintaining the gardens. Our clients always received bountiful harvests and signed up for the following year.

In 2014 I was introduced to Holy Fire® Karuna Reiki® through William Lee Rand. I was lucky to attend one of the first Holy Fire® classes. I had a spiritual awakening while in the class and saw what I'd call “the light. ” I at once resonated with the Holy Fire ® energy, and I knew I wanted to re-take all the previous levels of Usui Reiki to experience the Holy Fire® upgrade. The Holy Fire began to guide me in ways I didn’t know were possible. For me, the guidance was subtle, like it was my thoughts that exactly k new what to do next without hesitation. There was no analytical voice getting in the way with doubting, questioning and analyzing. Holy Fire® is positive, kind, supportive and the ideas it showed me were obtainable. I was inspired to grow food with Holy Fire® Reiki.

Jill with cornThat summer I grew corn that was over sixteen feet tall, and my husband and I began hatching a plan to grow food in our yard year-round by building a deep-winter greenhouse. In Minnesota, we have arctic winter temperatures, and a winter greenhouse would allow us to grow fresh produce during those months of freezing weather.

During this time, I used my Reiki to visualize and send distant Reiki for the best outcome since this plan was a new phase of growing produce. Lots of research was needed to understand the advanced techniques and processes of growing food in the winter. I had no idea what I was doing, so I let Reiki guide me the whole way. After a year of construction, we had completed our greenhouse. Our winter growing model received a lot of interest and encouragement from many quarters, and we ended up sharing data with the University of Minnesota and the Sustainable Farming Association. The positive energy even inspired me to host a few Reiki classes in the greenhouse with the plants. Everyone enjoyed being so close to the plants and receiving the Reiki energies in conjunction with the Reiki teachings. In the end, everything turned out better then we’d initially hoped.

greenhouseWhen the next phase of winter growing in the greenhouse began, I started sending Reiki to the plants, water, seeds and soil. Then we began selling our deep-winter greens to chefs, co-ops, and people in our CSA (community-supported agriculture). I wanted the food to be exceptional, and I wanted to see if people would notice anything different about our food. I only needed to have the intention, and the Reiki would flow, showing me exactly what to do. Every week we would sell out of our greens. People said our produce looked and tasted the best they’d ever had. When I mentioned that I would give them Reiki, they would say, “I knew there was something different about this food! I’ve never had anything like this! This food makes me happy, and I crave it.” Even top chefs in our town would remark on how good our greens were.

Reiki can be used in many of your gardening activities such as: Reiki your seeds or seedlings before planting them. Reiki your planting soil. Reiki your plants regularly to help them grow. You can also Reiki the water before watering your plants. As you sit and relax by our garden or by your houseplants, think of them and send them Reiki. This will provide a way for you to actually feel their energy and know on an energetic level what it’s like to be a plant. This shift in your state of mind can be very refreshing and create greater levels of creativity and mental clarity. (2)

Since I began my Reiki journey in 2004, my life has changed drastically. Reiki has helped me to find more joy and purpose. Through working with nature and gardening, I have another way to work with Reiki and use it in my daily life. It has led me to help others to grow their gardens and start their own Reiki practices. I see how Reiki has guided me over the years, and that by allowing it to guide me, things can turn out better than I had imagined.

Usui/Tibetan Reiki

I want to let those who continue to practice this form of Reiki know that we honor and support you. I created this style of Reiki back in 1989. It is a combination of the Usui style and another healing style called Raku Ki which was introduced by Arthur Robertson in 1985. Robertson was a practitioner of Tibetan shamanism and it was through this system he learned Raku Ki. While we have developed and teach the Usui/Holy Fire® style of Reiki, we will continue to supply the Reiki I&II and the Usui/Tibetan ART and Master manuals for your classes and other supplies you might need. —William Lee Rand

Reiki Stories*

chihuahuaReiki Heals our Dog
On the last day of last year, our 9-pound chihuahua almost died. She collapsed and was barely breathing. I was six states away, so my friend rushed her to the vet thirty miles from home. After doing all they could without success, they said to rush her to Cornell, a large veterinary school and hospital in Ithaca, New York.

We knew she had heart disease and a collapsing trachea, but we didn’t know she had a tear in her heart. The Cornell vet cardiologist said it was so rare that they had only ever seen one other case and after researching could only find 25 cases written up from around the world. They gave her oxygen for 24 hours which revived her, but the vet said, “We have no treatment to recommend other than to hope her body re-absorbs the large blood clot and the heart heals itself. We expect her survival will be between 2 weeks and 6 months at the most.”

Well, he didn’t know Reiki was my first thought. I came home and asked my Reiki friends and our Central New York Reiki Association to send her distance Reiki. We gave her Reiki every day and kept her as calm as possible.

Three months later was her first formal check-up with the cardiologist at Cornell. He came in the treatment area and immediately said, “She looks good! I’m surprised.” Thirty minutes later the testing was over and he came back with the good news. “We never expected to see this, but her blood clot is re-absorbed and the heart tear is completely healed. That’s amazing.”

Don’t ever doubt the power of Reiki.

Reiki Heimlich Maneuver On Dog, Calming Crying Child
Dear William: I am happy to relate two recent Reiki experiences. The first was with my roommate’s dog, Charley.

He kept gagging slightly, trying to clear his throat. I couldn’t tell if he had something caught in this throat or was ill and about to vomit. But he kept running around playfully in spite of his intermittent throat clearings. After about 45 minutes I decided to open my hands in his direction to send Reiki to him. He looked up at me while he paced back and forth. After just a minute or two I knelt down and put one hand on the back of his neck for just a minute since it’s hard for him to be still. After I stood up, he walked two steps and lowered his head, releasing a rock from his mouth! And it was not just a pebble but a rock!

The second Reiki event took place with my friend’s one-year-old baby. The baby was crying hysterically despite his mother’s best efforts. I took him into my arms with the intention of allowing Reiki to pass through my hands, and he stopped crying instantly. After a few minutes I laid him on the bed with his mother and held my palms towards them both from a foot away. I couldn’t believe the energy I was feeling in my hands! He smiled at me and then crawled over and laid himself in my arms. I kept one hand on his front and the other on his back for awhile. He fell asleep soon after!

Reiki Heals Pain
My mother was afflicted with severe pain on the left side from the shoulder to the ankle. For three months the pain gradually increased. By taking high-potency allopathic painkillers, the pain decreased but did not go away. All the lab tests showed nothing. Finally she started homeopathic treatment in such a way that she initially felt much better, but after a while the pain increased and got worse to the point that all the allopathic and homeopathic painkillers failed to diminish the pain. After I started giving her Reiki, she slept. After about half an hour I asked, “How do you feel?“ She said excitedly, “I feel much better; the pain has almost gone.” I gave her about eight or nine days of Reiki once daily. Thanks to ALLAH now she is completely pain-free. Also, once my younger sister felt an acute headache. I laid her down on the sofa and started giving her Reiki. After 25 minutes the head pain was completely gone. I immensely pay thanks to Gracious ALLAH that he blessed Reiki and Prof-Dr. Moiz Hussain [an angel in the shape of human]. And I secondly pay wordless thanks Prof-Dr. Moiz Hussain that he gave my life a purpose. Regards,

Normalizing Thyroid
Dear William: My daughter-in-law’s doctor discovered that her thyroid was enlarged. He did a test and the test came back normal; however, the thyroid was still enlarged and quite firm. After two Reiki treatments, which included using a blue stone on her thyroid, she developed a horrible cold that lasted only two days and it was completely gone. I gave another Reiki treatment and after the treatment, I felt the thyroid and it felt like a sack filled with water, not firm like before (She said that during the treatment she felt like vomiting, but fought the feeling.) The next morning, she vomited and had a bad bloody nose. When she got to my house that day, her neck was exactly the same on both sides, no enlargement on the left side whatsoever, and her thyroid continues to feel and look normal in appearance. I believe that this is truly a Reiki miracle.

Eye Healed
I have an interesting story about my left eye. I am an old man (64). A few months ago I suddenly had blurred vision in my left eye. I consulted the best eye hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia, in which I knew were the best eye specialists out of the University of Indonesia with advanced study at an Australian university. The doctor told me there was a minor bleeding in the retina blood vessels and that he would try first to cure it with medicines and antibiotics. He also asked me to drink carrot juices, which are rich in Vitamin C. I also consulted a full cousin Sumarsono (Sonny) Wuryadi, Reiki Master and Pranic Master Healer. He told me he would try to cure my eye with Reiki. I followed his advice by coming to his Reiki (Sanjiwani Clinics) every day for two weeks. When I consulted the eye specialist he told me that the bleeding was almost stopped. I am so happy to hear this, and thank God the Almighty for his help via Reiki and the eye medicines. Love Light Bless you all.
