Response to the Bishops Statement on Reiki

The US Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a statement that Reiki is not an appropriate practice for Catholic hospitals, health care centers or chaplains. Their conclusions and many of the ideas in the statement are based on inaccurate information. This article explains the facts about some common Reiki myths and gives information that is important for all practitioners to know.

It is widely believed that Mrs. Takata taught Reiki only as an oral tradition and that she didn’t provide students with handouts or allow them to take notes or tape record classes. It has recently come to light that she did allow students in at least one class to take notes and provided students with handouts.
