This manual accompanies the two-day ICRT Kid Reiki Training I & II and is designed to support both in-person and online classes taught by an ICRT Kid Reiki Training Master Teacher through the International Center for Reiki Training. Created for Reiki practitioners who feel called to share Reiki with children and families, this foundational manual offers a comprehensive, thoughtful, and heart-centered approach to working with young people of all ages.
Kid Reiki is not simply “adult Reiki adapted for kids.” This manual guides practitioners in understanding the unique emotional, developmental, energetic, and relational needs of children, teens, and families, while also supporting the practitioner’s own inner child and professional growth. We place emphasis on ethical practice, clear boundaries, inclusivity, and creating safe, respectful spaces where children can experience Reiki in ways that honor their autonomy, curiosity, and innate wisdom.
Throughout the manual, students will explore the philosophy and intention behind the Kid Reiki program, including why it is valuable not only for children but also for adults who work with them. Topics include working with parents and caregivers, preparing for Kid Reiki sessions, differences between adult and child sessions, and adapting Reiki for in-person and distance work with children and teens. Special attention is given to consent, communication, grounding, and the creation of supportive environments that foster trust and connection.
The manual also introduces essential developmental concepts, such as stages of childhood and adolescence, emotional regulation, identity formation, neurodiversity, and sensitivity, helping practitioners approach each child with greater awareness and compassion. Dedicated chapters address working with empathetic, highly sensitive, intuitive, and psychic children, offering practical tools and guidance for both sessions and classes.
Students will revisit core Reiki teachings, including Usui Reiki symbols, Japanese Reiki Techniques, Holy Fire® Reiki, and descriptions of the first three Levels of Heaven, while also learning the Divine Heart Symbol and related healing techniques specific to Kid Reiki. Guided meditations and reflective practices support both personal healing and professional integration.
Finally, the manual provides guidance for building a thriving Kid Reiki practice. The appendix includes program integrity guidelines to support practitioners long after the training is complete, information on guiding principles, ethical considerations, and standards of practice. The forms available are a client information form, a testimonial form, and class evaluation forms.
This manual serves as both a training companion and an ongoing reference, inviting practitioners to share Reiki with children and families in a way that is grounded, compassionate, ethical, and deeply respectful of each child’s unique journey.
