"Dr. Gianna Settin is an Usui/Tibetan, Karuna Reiki® and Gendai Reiki Ho Master Teacher and practitioner who recently relocated to Colorado after practicing and teaching Reiki in Maine since 1980. Her business Avanti Healing Arts® specializes in teaching Reiki and meditation in unique and natural settings around the world. Attunements are often done outside among the pines or on an Island at the ocean’s edge---wherever there is beauty. The Elements and connection with Spirit are intrinsic aspects of the Reiki Classes. Trainings are dedicated to healing the Earth as well as its beings. Dr. Settin is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, specialist in Reiki with Animals, and originator/presenter of Reiki Healing Dance.™ She is also an author, and has dedicated this year to finally finishing several books, among them a work on Earth Healing with Trees, and the book on Reiki Healing Dance.

“I began Reiki after a trek in Nepal in 1999, where I observed a miraculous healing in the Himalayas at the Tibetan border on the way to a 17,500 ft. pass through the 8th highest mountain in the world (Manaslu) that literally involved raising the dead. This was the catalyst for my learning Reiki, which I now recognize as the same kind of healing that I had witnessed.

My background since the age of 16, when I became involved with natural healing through Edgar Casey and studied with the Self Realization Fellowship (Sri Yogananda), has been extremely eclectic. Thanks to liberal encouragement from my parents, my multi-cultural and metaphysical interests, and training in anthropology and psychology at Columbia University in New York City where I grew up, I now combine Tibetan Buddhism, Catholicism and Native American Ceremony with Reiki in my spiritual practice.

As a PhD Licensed Clinical Psychologist for 25 years, I worked with thousands of amazing, wonderful people of great strength in mental health settings, from community outreach with the elderly to working as Program Services Director of a psychiatric hospital. In my private practice, I specialized in therapy for couples & adolescents, artistic development, personality issues, and holistic/spiritual determinants of health. I used various healing methods that are similar to Japanese Reiki Techniques (such as Gyoshi ho) and intuitive healing all along without realizing it, not only with my clients but with my medicinal herbs, and my animals!

Through Reiki, I became aware of a system into which the many healing energies, techniques and spiritual ways I had encountered could be organized. This focused me in a way that has transformed my life. I find that I have energy for creativity, relationships and healing work that amplifies with warp speed every year. Combining Reiki with Psychotherapy is positively amazing, with the result that I have closed my conventional psychotherapy practice. I now offer Psychotherapeutic Reiki as well as aura clearing, chakra balancing, intuitive energy readings & healing attunements as a regular part of my Reiki treatment practice.

My specialty with animals stems from an early awareness of intuitive and telepathic abilities with them, before I ever worked with humans. As a veterinary surgical technician at a large animal hospital in NYC, I learned first hand to work with a range of animals--- not merely to treat them but to talk with them. I have a calling to do outreach consultation with animals and their persons to work with the psychological and environmental issues that affect their behavior and quality of life, and to offer Reiki training in this area.

Energy movement studies over the years in Yoga, TaiChi and QiGong have been fundamental influences upon my understanding of the mind-body-spirit connection. But it was my first career as a professional dancer (ballet and jazz soloist) that I most missed in my life. After a few years of doing Reiki, I was blessed with a vision that pointed me clearly back onto this path. I was drawn through Reiki to choreograph the Heart Chakra Dance and Reiki Symbol Dances, produced as the DVD: HEALING DANCE © in 2004. For this I collaborated with my brother Joe, singer-songwriter in Sacramento, California (and also a Reiki practitioner) to write original music for the dances. It was one of the best experiences of my life to work with my brother on this project in such harmony. The expanded result was the Reiki Healing Dance™ practitioner certification course, taught regularly in the US and Canada. In 2007 I returned to France to present this at the 2nd European Reiki Conference in Evian.

Becoming a Center Licensed Teacher has been important in my life and I am grateful to have studied for my Master Teacher training with William in 2002 and Laurelle in 2003. I am also a Gendai Reiki Ho Shihan (teacher); my teacher Roberta Barnes is certified by the Gendai Reiki Healing Kyokai (of Hiroshi Doi). This pure form of Japanese Reiki is beautiful in its simple focus on Reiki as a way of life and the many advanced Japanese Reiki Techniques are enlightening.

This year I am focusing on writing and teaching locally in Colorado and the United States Southwest. In the past I was fortunate to be able to travel internationally to teach in Nepal and Europe. I still someday plan to return to Italy to teach and afterward trek into the Dolomite Mountains where my father was born. Now, however, it seems more important to manifest my dream of building a Hogan on land in the 4 corners area and living a sustainable lifestyle. I live simply in a one room cabin bordering on public lands, where I can walk out the door and hike into pristine wilderness.

I strongly believe that it is essential that we all work toward re-balancing planetary energy where we live, in our own ways, to help Mother Earth walk in beauty. Tending to our spiritual practice (however we choose to express it), and caring for the animals, stones, plants and beings on the land, will allow each of us to be guided toward the next right thing---today---. The more I work with the Great Spirit and my primary guides, the more my life is tranquil and filled with joy. This aspect of life on this planet has become primary for me, and I have found Reiki energy to be a specific for that purpose.

Reiki has provided a level of stability, safety and grounding combined with celestial guidance that transcends any other form of healing that I have experienced and I feel completely blessed by its light. I love to teach Reiki and to share its transcendent wisdom and wonder with others. It is truly a way to “discover the spirit of healing within.”

Gianna
